Lokame Tharavad

World is one Family

The Lokame tharavadu Alappuzha art show will feature works by 267 artists under the theme ‘The world is one family-‘. The exhibition comprises art forms like painting (canvas), sculpture (clay) and installations (mud).

The Lokame tharavadu alappuzha art show, which is an edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB), The exhibition is being organised with an aim of bringing the common people closer to art and culture through contemporary works.

Nehru Trophy Boat Race

The Nehru Trophy Boat Race or also called Vallam Kali, named after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is conducted on the Punnamada Lake, On the second Saturday of August every year. The boat race has its origin in alappuzha district, was inaugurated by the prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1952, The most popular boat race is the competition of Chundan vallams People from across Kerala and all parts of India come to watch this fiercely fought boat race on the Punnamada Lake which is transformed into a sea of humanity. Which attracts thousands of visitors to come to watch Boat race. The Boat race which is a live broadcasting through Tv channels. The winner was awarded a trophy in the name of Jawaharlal Nehru.

Coir Kerala

Coir kerala aims at exploring and expanding the market of coir products from kerala.

Alleppey is the nerve  of Kerala’s prominent Coir industry. Here, The coconut husks are beaten into fibre for making beautiful coir products. Both men and women are working in the production of Coir products.

Coir kerala would co-ordinate with co-operative societies to produce coir products at a lower cost and pass on the benefit to consumers. The government has decided to earmark Rs 3 crore for coir kerala. The board will have an office in cochin apart from other places where coir is produced and processed into various goods.

Alappuzha Heritage program

Alappuzha Heritage Program

The Alappuzha Heritage Project is an attempt to restore Alappuzha's historical and cultural values. The important steps include renovation of the 150-year-old Alappuzha sea bridge, construction of Alappuzha maritime museum, Alappuzha heritage museum, Alappuzha coir corporation and Alappuzha coir training center. The two-phase Alappuzha heritage project was officially launched by Vikram babu, Alappuzha district collector and the Alappuzha municipality chairperson v.k shylaja on 8th june 2012.
